Jacob Mark, the former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State should be removed from his position following his resignation from the party.

Mark expressed this view on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television, which was monitored by DAILY POST.

It is important to note that Governor Diri resigned from the opposition party last week, shortly after his counterpart from Enugu, Peter Mbah, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The constitution of Nigeria clearly indicates that one cannot contest elections without the backing of a political party. Consequently, one also cannot hold an elective position without being affiliated with a political party,” he stated.

“What we are witnessing today is a scenario where individuals are perceived to be more powerful than the political parties themselves. They are behaving like warlords, controlling the territories they occupy and making decisions with little regard for the established norms,” he added.
