DAVID Haye has made another bold statement as he claimed that he’s a feminist but insisted “women can’t go to war”.

The professional boxer, 45, sparked a sexism row on the show when he said his model girlfriend Sian, 33, had “the personality of a proper ugly bird” and explained a concept he called “ugly duckling syndrome”.

Doubling down today, said on The Sun’s podcast Showbiz Fix: “If you’ve got 10 supermodels who’ve been stunning since they were little, everyone’s like ‘whatever you want, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes’.

“Then you get 10 busted-up, ugly chicks and they’ve had to work for everything, they’ve got to get the shit jobs, they’ve got to work their way up, they’ve got to do all the crap that the pretty girls don’t have to do.

“Now put them all in the dark and have a conversation with the ugly 10, their personalities will be on average, in my opinion, significantly better.

“I’m saying my girlfriend has a personality of an ugly bird which sounds harsh when you say it, but it’s just how it is, it’s the truth and people don’t like the truth.”

It’s hard to resist asking David where we, two average 40-somethings rate on David’s scale.

With bated breath, I venture: “Do you think that we’ve got the personality of an ugly bird?”

“You’ve got the personality of an ugly bird,” he assures us.

“You’ve got a job based on your personality, based on engaging conversations back and forth and you’re both stunning as well, so you’ve got the full package.”

Umm… thank you?

It begs the next question. Is David Haye a feminist?

“It depends what your version of feminism is. If we’re drafted to go to war, women won’t be drafted in the UK, right? So, no, we’re not equal,” he said.

Despite the backlash from viewers, the sport star insisted he wouldn’t have done anything differently.

He said: “I genuinely had some amazing connections with everybody and I enjoyed their company, all of them.

“We had a nice time. It was a really nice group of people.

“They cranked the trials up in terms of how tough they were and the amount of cockroaches they’d pour over your head or the questions they’d ask you.

“It was all a lot harder than I remember – It was the questions. Any trial that requires me knowing any sort of trivial Adele song, spinning me round and round in a machine, asking me about Adele songs, I couldn’t think of one now.”

Now the whole cast will reunite at the live finale on Friday – which Jimmy Bullard has now confirmed he will attend.

And – against all odds, despite the reaction – it sounds like David’s looking forward to it.

He said: “This has been the real David. Whether you think I’m the sexist or a bully, that’s your opinion, from a TV show that’s been edited.

“If they think that, then good luck to them, I don’t really care.”
