A MOTHER has given her son’s bedroom a total American-style makeover whilst on a budget.
Crystal Jewell, a 32-year-old mum-of-two from Portsmouth , is currently on a mission to transform her council house – and her most recent project involved adding style to her son’s “tiny” box room.

The DIY enthusiast took to social media to give her followers a before, during and after look at the cheap and cheerful overhaul and explained that it was all thanks to bargains from B&Q and The Range .
Showing off the room prior to its renovation , the brunette beauty said: “Can you believe this bedroom only cost me £70 to transform?”
“As most of you already know, I’m on a journey of transforming my council house .
“Money is tight but I’m gonna make it work no matter what.
“For this room, I absolutely love the American-styled bedroom.
“I went to B&Q and got a big MDF board and got it cut into pieces – this is honestly the easiest thing I’ve done in this house so far.”
As she panelled the wall and gave it a fresh lick of paint , the content creator added: “I managed to get all of this done in just one day.
“The wallpaper is from The Range which I only needed two rolls to complete.
“I still have so much to do in this room for it to be fully complete, but at the moment I’m over the moon with it.”
Thrilled with the bedroom, the mother, who recently made a DIY dressing table for only £21, continued: “It’s nice, clean and fresh for him to enjoy and relax and unwind after a long, hard day at school .
“The paint I used is from B&Q, it’s their own range and I think it was only £16 per tub.
“This room only needed two coats and I was still left with half a tub of paint.”
Showing off the bedroom, Crystal admitted to being “in love,” as she beamed: “I can’t believe I did this for under £70.”
How to do your council house up on the cheap
- Take inspiration from pricier shops and head to B&M, Home Bargains for interior decorations.
- Head to YouTube for easy to follow tutorials on how to decorate rather than paying for professionals.
- For a quick glow-up for your floors or anywhere with tiles, opt for stick-on vinyl to save on costs.
- A lick of paint does wonders to make a room feel brand-new.
- Switch out kitchen cupboard knobs for modern ones instead of buying brand-new cupboards
