CORONATION Street legend Beverley Callard has revealed the heartbreaking moment she broke down with husband Jon McEwan amid her breast cancer battle.

The soap icon – best known for playing Liz McDonald on the cobbles – shared an emotional new video with fans updating them on her progress .

The 68-year-old was back at home resting as she filmed the video address to fans and opened up on her next steps.

She explained that she for nurses to check her dressings and to learn if further surgery was required.

“The consultant came in and she took the dressing off my arm,” she said.

“It’s quite a big haematoma and she doesn’t want to operate on it unless she has to, but she wants to delay that till next week.”

Despite the positive news, Beverley felt emotional at seeing her body post-surgery.

“Then she came to change the dressing and I was feeling really strong and ready for it,” she said.

“She took the dressing off and I looked down and saw myself for the first time and I just thought I can’t do this and she said ‘you okay?’ and I said ‘fine’ as we all do and she said ‘do you want to have a look at yourself in the mirror?’ and I said ‘I can’t’.

It wasn’t until Beverley was alone that her emotions hit her.

“I went downstairs and out of the hospital, Jon was there waiting for me and I got in the car and cried my heart out like a baby,” she said.

“I wasn’t strong at all then, I’d lost the whole lot. But I’m sure we all go through that.”

Following the wobble, Beverley proudly added that she did eventually look at the surgery results.

“And then I did come home and I did look at myself and I did show Jon – so I did get through it in the end.

“And if anyone else is going through that part of it right now, god love you. We can do this,” she said, signing off.

The telly star was given the shock cancer news just 20 minutes before

Beverley – who starred on I’m A Celebrity in 2020 – returned to the UK to undergo the operation to test her lymph nodes for cancer.

She shot to fame after she appeared on the long-running ITV soap back in 1989.
