And during Wednesday evening’s episode, contestant Lucie Alcock was shocked to make it all the way to the 1% question before walking away with a whopping £100K.
A university student from Liverpool, Lucie told earlier in the show that she often watches the show with her boyfriend back at uni.
“We both applied but I’m the only one who got on, so I’m trying to, like, win something for us both,” she said during the game.
Lucie also admitted at the 15% question that she “didn’t think I’d get this far”.
When it came to crunch time at the end of the show, every single pass had been used meaning that £100K was up for grabs.
Lucie beat out three other finalists, who got the 1% question wrong.
The question was: ‘What letter of the alphabet replaces the question mark in this sentence: ANGLE RE GON ?’
The answer is…
The letter ‘N’, with the sequence names of shapes that are each missing the same number of letters from the beginning of their names as the number of sides that they have.
The full sequence is Triangle, Square, Pentagon and Hexagon – with the letter N representing Hexagon.
“I have to ask, Lucie, how long did it take you to get that?” Lee asked after revealing the student had won.
The visibly stunned winner said with a giggle: “About half the time,” before adding, “Oh, my god”.
This meant that Lucie is the only person, other than , to have won the full £100K on the show.
One overjoyed viewer said on X: “Only once before has the full £100k has been won & that was in a celebrity special well before the rollover became a thing. Tonight, Lucie has scooped the whole shebang. And she will be back tomorrow along with the other 4 finalists. #The1PercentClub“
While Lucie may have immediately understood the question, viewers at home were left baffled.
One tweeted: “I might have got it, in 30 days but not 30 seconds.”
Another echoed: “That was so random. How the hell did she get that.”
