Former Chelsea star Oriol Romeu could be set for a stunning return to the Premier League, with Southampton looking to re-sign the midfielder as a free agent.
The 34-year-old, who lifted the with in 2012, is being lined up by the Saints as they push for Championship survival.

Romeu is currently without a club where he struggled for game time.
The former Chelsea man enjoyed a strong 2024–25 campaign on loan from Barcelona at Girona and expectations were that he would be signed on permanently but the deal never came through.
According to journalist Alex Crook , Southampton want to bring the experienced Spaniard back to St Mary’s to add leadership and depth to his squad.
The Saints are struggling in the and have but are keen to strengthen in hope of avoiding relegation this season.
Romeu spent seven years at Southampton between 2015 and 2022, making more than 250 appearances and earning a reputation as one of the club’s most consistent performers.
He became a fan favourite for his tough tackling, composure on the ball and professionalism, even during difficult when the team was fighting relegation.
His leadership and experience were also vital in helping develop younger players, something that the club see as a huge bonus if a deal can be done.

The midfielder is said to be open to a reunion and would relish the chance to play regular again in England.
It’s understood that early talks have taken place, with the possibility of a short-term contract being discussed to cover the second half of the season.
