The Publicity Secretary elected at the Ibadan convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ini Ememobong Essien, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, regarding the clashes that occurred between the party's rival factions on Tuesday.

This comes as he criticized the police for dispersing PDP officials and journalists at the party's national secretariat in Abuja.

Essien made these remarks to reporters after law enforcement officers used tear gas to scatter party members and journalists who had gathered at the secretariat.

He noted that several PDP governors were among those affected, emphasizing that the police had been informed of the party's concerns during a meeting between the national chairman and the Commissioner of Police on Monday.

He mentioned that security personnel permitted access to individuals who had been expelled from the party while blocking other members, including governors and the national chairman, from entering the premises.

“You have been tear-gassed. We all know the truth. Today, several governors were tear-gassed; for what reason? Yesterday, our party's chairman met with the Commissioner of Police, and we clearly outlined our concerns. Yet this morning, they facilitated the entry of individuals who had been expelled from the party while preventing the rightful members of the party from coming in,” he stated.

“The actual situation is that the police arrived. We entered and found individuals who, upon seeing the rightful members of the party, excused themselves. The national chairman addressed the press, and we remained there.”

“As we were about to leave and had postponed our planned meeting due to security reasons, someone was escorted in. The same individuals who barred us from entering, who prevented two governors and the national chairman from coming in, were the ones escorting someone else. And so we remained here,” he added.
