The Benue North Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, Abraham Waroh, has cautioned traditional rulers against delving into partisan politics.

He stressed that the traditional institution is meant to remain autonomous, sacred, and respected.

Waroh stated this on Tuesday during a chat with journalists at the PDP State Secretariat in Makurdi.

He said any traditional ruler who desires to participate actively in politics or influence political appointments in favor of family members should do so openly by resigning from the throne, rather than hiding under the prestigious canopy of traditional authority while making reckless political statements.

Waroh noted that once a traditional or religious leader ventures into making political comments, they cease to be neutral custodians of the people and should henceforth be treated as politicians.

He warned against attempts to blackmail him into silence, affirming that he would not refrain from choosing his words carefully when responding to a traditional ruler who has abandoned the role of uniting the people for divisive public utterances.

“As a good student of history I know for a fact that the Tiv people have always been courageous enough to say ‘no’ to anyone who seeks to take them for granted.”
