Benue Crisis: State police only solution to ending killings – Alia tells Tinubu

Published on June 18, 2025 at 03:25 PM

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has called for the establishment of state police across the country, insisting that state policing will serve as a sustainable solution to the persistent insecurity in Benue State.

The Governor stated this on Wednesday, when President Bola Tinubu visited the state following the killing of over 200 residents by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

DAILY POST earlier reported that the President was in Makurdi, Benue, as part of efforts to condole with the people over the violent attacks in the state.

Alia said in his call said, “Let me also reiterate my firm support for the establishment of state police as a sustainable solution to the persistent insecurity in our state and perhaps elsewhere.

“Why acknowledge other concerns surrounding its implementation. I believe the federal government can address these by setting clear state specific guidelines and regulatory frameworks to prevent any potential.”;
