The Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman has cautioned Fulani settlers in the state against taking laws in their hands, rather report their grievances to the Police.
He explained that the primary purpose of establishing the Police and the courts is to ensure that aggrieved parties get justice, as such, no one is expected to take laws into his hands.
The CP stated this during a meeting with a delegation of Fulani settlers and their leaders in the state led by Wakilin Fulani Minna, Alh. Hassan Usman Shiroro at the State Police Headquarters Dutsen-Kura Minna.
Elleman assured them that he would address all their complaints, and he directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations, DC SCID to immediately commence investigation into the issues raised, and ensure arrest and prosecution accordingly.
The Deputy CP, Operations DCP Falade Michael in his contribution suggested that the group should set up a liaison or vigilante team that could assist the Police in investigation activities.
Additionally, the Deputy CP, Investigations DCP Ibrahim Adamu, advised against teenagers handling cattle grazing due to potential property damage.
“Teenagers among your children should not be allowed to take cattle for grazing. Because, most times they lack the capacity to control the animals, thereby resulting in damage of property and farmland,”; Adamu advised.
He also noted the need for no interference by their leaders or parents in cases involving any of their members, rather be allowed to face the consequences of their actions.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Hassan Usman Shiroro commended the efforts of the Command in ensuring relative peace in Minna and the State as a whole.
However, he lamented the challenges facing his members in their various settlements within the state and requested for urgent intervention of the Police on the challenges raised.
