A repeat of Stacey’s show was due to air at 8pm on BBC One.
But now Fawlty Towers will be shown instead, as a mark of respect for actress Prunella Scales, who has died aged 93.
The national-treasure played Basil’s long suffering wife Sybil Fawlty in all 12 episodes that aired in the mid to late 70s.
Tonight, episode two from series one called The Builders will be shown, as the BBC’s tribute to .
The synopsis for the episode, which first aired on September 26, 1975, reads: “Major renovations are made to the lobby while the Fawltys are out, but when a misreading causes the incompetent builders to mess it up spectacularly, Basil must try to remedy the situation before Sybil finds out.”
A STAR IS GONE
Today’s sad news about Prunella was announced by her sons, who said .
The actress was diagnosed with vascular in 2014, with the condition sadly leading to her calling time on her 67-year acting career.
Following her death, her sons Samuel West and Joseph West – whom she shared with the – paid tribute in a statement.
Issued by the heartbroken siblings, it read: “Our darling mother Prunella Scales died peacefully at home in London yesterday. She was 93.
“Although dementia forced her retirement from a remarkable acting career of nearly 70 years, she continued to live at home.
“She was watching Fawlty Towers the day before she died.
“Pru was married to Timothy West for 61 years. He died in November 2024.
“She is survived by two sons and one stepdaughter, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
“We would like to thank all those who gave Pru such wonderful care at the end of her life: her last days were comfortable, contented and surrounded by love.”
