The Bauchi State Government has appealed for support from international partners and stakeholders to combat the ongoing cholera outbreak in the state.

As part of its response, the government inaugurated two bodies — the State Cholera Steering Committee and the State Technical Working Committee — to coordinate interventions.

Speaking at the inauguration, Deputy Governor, Auwal Muhammad Jatau, who chairs the Steering Committee, urged members to approach their responsibilities with professionalism, urgency, and commitment.

He expressed concern that cholera outbreaks continue to claim lives and place pressure on the state’s health system.

Jatau stressed that cholera remains a preventable disease if tackled early through improved access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services.

According to him, the committees will drive prevention strategies and coordinate multi-sectoral response efforts. The Deputy Governor also assured development partners of Governor Bala Mohammed’s full support for their programmes.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, who chairs the Technical Working Committee, pledged that his team would do everything possible to address the causes of the outbreak and deliver on their mandate.

In a goodwill message, WaterAid Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening WASH services in the state.

The organisation disclosed that it has secured funding for a project that will expand access to climate-resilient WASH services, particularly for women in Misau Local Government Area.
