On October 28, 2025, Governor Mohammed signed the legislation that was passed by the State House of Assembly. Following this, the acting deputy clerk of the House, Musa Yerima, submitted the proposal to the Committee on Constitution Review.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Bauchi State House of Assembly has enacted a law to provide for the creation of 29 new local government areas in Bauchi State, 2025.

“The additional local government areas listed in Schedule II of this law are provisional until the National Assembly passes an Act to officially designate the names of these new local government areas, as stipulated in Section 8(5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“This law is hereby forwarded to the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Constitution Review at the National Assembly for further necessary action,” he wrote.

Yerima stated that the law was passed in compliance with Sub-Section 3 of Section 100 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

According to DAILY POST, Bauchi State currently has 20 local government areas recognized by the 1999 Constitution. If the proposal for the additional 29 local government areas is ratified and approved by the National Assembly, the state will have a total of 49 local government areas.
