Executives of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Ebonyi State chapter, have been re-elected for a second term.

The re-election took place on Thursday during the delegate congress of the union in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The motion for the re-election was proposed by Charles Nwali from the Association of Senior Civil Servants, alongside Nwanneka Chukwuba, a member of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria.

The election was observed by government officials and leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state.

Those re-elected include Comrade Chidi Igboji as Chairman; Nwanneka Chukwuba as Vice Chairman; Nwogbodo Vincent as Secretary; Aja Kelechi as Treasurer; and Nwaji Sunday as Financial Secretary, among others.

Chairman Igboji expressed gratitude to the union members for their trust and assured them that they will continue to advocate for their welfare.

He mentioned that the union will inform the national body about the election and expressed hope that both the state chapter and the national body will collaborate for the advancement of the TUC.

“This is the state council; it is not the national council. We represent the grassroots level, and I believe they will accept our decision made here at the state level,” he stated.

“Both the State Administrative Council (SAC) and the State Executive Council (SEC) were present, and it was the collective decision of both SAC and SEC, along with the members of affiliate unions, that led to our re-election,” he added.

Former chairman of the NLC in the state, Comrade Ikechukwu Nwafor, who also monitored the election process, commended the members of the union for their unity of purpose.
