The Governing Council of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has dismissed Dr. Usman Aliyu from the institution's service following his involvement in a case of sexual harassment.

This was disclosed by the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

Bappa stated that the decision was taken at the university’s 96th regular council meeting held on April 11, 2025.

Dr. Aliyu was found guilty of sexually harassing a married female postgraduate student from the Department of Chemical Engineering, under the Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology.

“The dismissal followed the findings of the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee, which confirmed the lecturer’s misconduct,”; Bappa said.

He explained that the action was taken in line with Chapter 3, Item F, I, (o) of the university’s Senior Staff Conditions of Service.

As part of the directive, Dr. Aliyu has been ordered to return all university property in his possession to his Head of Department and surrender his identification card to the university’s Chief Security Officer.
