ROBIN VAN PERSIE gave his son Shaqueel his professional debut during Feyenoord’s Europa League loss to Celtic.

The former star, now 42, was looking for a last-minute equalizer in the match.

He then turned to the bench and brought on striker Shaqueel.

Unfortunately, the decision backfired as Celtic scored moments later to secure a 3-1 victory.

Nevertheless, Van Persie defended his choice, explaining that the decision stemmed solely from his responsibilities as head coach.

He stated: “From a father's perspective, when your son makes his debut, it is always a special moment.

“However, I wasn't focused on enjoying that moment; I was doing my job just as Shaqueel was.

“I made that decision as a coach, not as a father, because we needed a goal.

“Shaqueel is a player capable of scoring from any position. That was the reason I brought him on.”

Shaqueel, 19, was included in the matchday squad last weekend due to an ongoing injury crisis at the club.
