The Nigerian Army has confirmed the promotion of 105 senior officers to the ranks of Major General and Brigadier General, as stated in a release on Friday.

This announcement was made in a statement signed by Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations.

She noted that the Army Council made this decision on Thursday.

According to her, 28 Brigadier Generals were elevated to Major General, while 77 Colonels advanced to Brigadier General.

Among those promoted to Major General are Brig.-Gen. O. Adegbe from the Defence Intelligence Agency; Brig.-Gen. S.M. Uba, the Director of Defence Information; Brig.-Gen. R.E. Hedima, the Acting Chief of Military Intelligence (Army); and Brig.-Gen. R.T. Utsaha, the Deputy Director of Defence Operations.

Others on the list include Brig.-Gen. A.M. Umar, Commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy; Brig.-Gen. S. Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary (Army); Brig.-Gen. I.O. Bassey, Director of the Nigerian Army Operations Centre; and Brig.-Gen. C.A. Ekeator from the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

Also promoted were Brig.-Gen. S.Y. Yakasai, Acting Director of Procurement in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff; Brig.-Gen. W.L. Nzidee from the Army Logistics Department; Brig.-Gen. S.A. Emmanuel of Nigerian Army Signals; Brig.-Gen. S.S. Tilawan, Acting Commander of Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI; Brig.-Gen. M.O. Agi from the NDA TETFund Desk; Brig.-Gen. I.M. Abbas, Commander of 34 Brigade; and Brig.-Gen. Z.A. Saidu, who received a posthumous promotion.

The newly appointed Brigadier Generals come from various army formations and units, including the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Army Headquarters Garrison, Defence Headquarters, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Nigerian Army Dog Centre, 9 Brigade, 401 Special Forces Brigade, the Nigerian Army Medical Corps, and several Army reference hospitals.

In congratulating the officers and their families, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, encouraged them to demonstrate strong leadership and meet expectations.

He urged them to develop bold, innovative, and unconventional solutions to tackle Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

Shaibu also reminded them of their responsibilities to the nation, emphasizing that their loyalty to the Constitution should be absolute, unwavering, and beyond reproach.
