The Action People’s Party (APP), Imo State chapter, has strongly condemned the horrific killing of two individuals by violent individuals posing as officials of the Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO).

The alleged murders were revealed through a distressing video clip that has been circulating across various social media platforms.

The party expressed its deep shock and outrage over these ongoing incidents resulting in the loss of innocent lives in Imo State, which appear to stem from the alleged recklessness and unchecked actions of ENTRACO officials, becoming a disturbing trend in the region.

According to the party, the latest incident, which took place at St. Mulumba by Akachi Road, near First Bank in Owerri, serves as a grim reminder of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government’s blatant disregard for human life and the rule of law.

It also lamented a previous incident at Toronto Junction, MCC/Uratta Road, Owerri, where individuals lost their lives at the hands of the same ENTRACO personnel.

In a statement issued on Monday by APP’s interim state Publicity Secretary, Cajetan Duke, the party noted that it is shocking that despite promises of "Shared Prosperity," the actions of these government agents have become synonymous with spreading misery, suffering, and even death in Imo State.

Part of the statement reads, “It is disheartening to observe that a commission established to promote environmental cleanliness and orderliness in accordance with the capital city master plan has transformed into a vehicle for various forms of criminal extortion through intimidation and harassment of commercial road users and other vulnerable members of society.

“The people of Imo State are living in fear, and it is unacceptable that ENTRACO officials have become more infamous than armed bandits, unknown gunmen, and terrorists. We demand an immediate cessation of these provocative and reckless killings of our citizens. The government must take accountability for safeguarding its people and ensure that those responsible for these heinous acts are held accountable.

“This entrenched culture of insensitivity, lack of empathy, high-handedness, impunity, and blatant disregard for human life, which has characterized the actions and operations of ENTRACO, raises serious questions about the credibility and competence of the current leadership and management of the commission.

“We, therefore, urge Governor Uzodimma to promptly dismiss the current management of the commission in the best interest of Imo citizens and road users alike, due to gross ineptitude, poor leadership, and a lack of the necessary skills to manage a crucial, people-oriented, and service-driven government agency like ENTRACO.

“The Action People’s Party (APP) stands in solidarity with the families of the victims and demands justice. We call upon all well-meaning Imolites to join us in condemning these brutal killings and insisting on accountability from the Uzodimma-led administration in the state.”

The opposition party has called for a thorough investigation into these incidents and for those responsible to be brought to justice, asserting that the people of Imo State deserve better than to live in fear of being harmed by those who are sworn to protect them.
