The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday urged former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to abandon his aspirations for the 2027 presidential election.
The party stated that Nigerians cannot entrust their future to Obi, who failed to earn respect in his own polling unit during the recent governorship election in Anambra State.
The spokesperson for the state branch of the party, Seye Oladejo, questioned how Obi expects to lead Nigeria when he cannot secure a win in his own polling unit.
In a statement, Oladejo remarked: “A person who cannot win in their polling unit has no reason to aspire to win a nation. Someone who is rejected in their own neighborhood cannot claim to have acceptance nationwide. A candidate whose strongest support base has collapsed cannot promote the illusion of a national movement.
“This defeat signifies the total unraveling of the myth surrounding Peter Obi. Furthermore, we sincerely hope Mr. Obi will not resort to pleading for foreign intervention to save him from this political decline, as he has unashamedly attempted in recent times. Nigeria’s democracy is not a playground for desperate politicians seeking sympathy abroad after being turned away at home.
“While President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is focused on rebuilding institutions, improving the economy, expanding infrastructure, attracting foreign investments, and restoring global confidence, Peter Obi is occupied with giving contradictory interviews, seeking international validation, and relying on hashtags that fail at the ballot box.
“If Peter Obi cannot gain trust in his own polling unit, he should set aside his 2027 ambitions. Nigerians will not surrender their future to a man whose own community has clearly withdrawn their confidence.
“The APC’s victory in his unit is symbolic, definitive, and prophetic. It reflects the national sentiment: performance is prevailing over propaganda; structure is overcoming chaos; and delivery is dismantling deception.
“Peter Obi should spare the nation further theatrics. He must first address the political issues in his own backyard before pretending he can fix Nigeria.”
