Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has stated that President Donald Trump of the United States lacks awareness of the realities in Nigeria.
In an interview aired on Arise Television, which was monitored by DAILY POST on Monday, Ndume mentioned that many Americans possess a limited understanding of Nigeria’s intricate challenges.
The lawmaker was responding to Trump’s recent statements regarding Nigeria and its security situation.
The former Senate Chief Whip emphasized that Trump’s remarks illustrate the widespread misconceptions that many foreigners have about the country.
He remarked, “I have visited America myself. The average American is quite naive.
“You might encounter an American who resides in Ohio, has grown up there, and has never traveled to Chicago. That’s where the issue lies.”
According to him, this narrow perspective results in erroneous conclusions about Nigeria. He pointed out that he had previously introduced a motion in the Senate titled ‘Urgent Need to Correct the Misconception of Nigeria Being a CPC,’ which aimed to address the false perceptions held abroad.
“They mentioned that a committee was established, but nothing substantial was accomplished, and it was treated with indifference,” he added.
