A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wahab Shittu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to engage in diplomatic discussions with the United States regarding the threat of military intervention against terrorists, as indicated by President Donald Trump.

On Saturday, Trump responded to alleged anti-Christian violence by stating that he had instructed the recently renamed US Department of War to "prepare for possible action."

The US president asserted that his country would immediately halt all assistance to Nigeria if its government continues to permit the killing of Christians.

While addressing journalists, the senior lawyer emphasized the necessity for Nigeria to pursue peace initiatives with the US.

He encouraged President Tinubu to personally lead a delegation that includes all heads of government to prevent what he described as the potential outbreak of a US war against Nigeria.

Shittu advised Tinubu to temporarily set aside other official engagements to tackle what he termed an existential threat against Nigeria and its citizens.
The senior lawyer also called on Nigerians to unite in support of the government at all levels to confront this challenge.

“In light of the recent US threats of possible action against Nigeria, I urge the Nigerian president and the ruling elite to engage the US president diplomatically, led personally by our president in collaboration with AU Heads of Governments, to avert the onset of a US war against Nigeria,” he stated.
