At her lowest point, Aish, who has been sober for four weeks and is sharing her journey online, confessed that she would even consume mouthwash when she was desperate for alcohol.
Reflecting on her experience, Aish said: “I used to order bottles of vodka at 7 am daily—Deliveroo was both my best friend and my worst enemy.”
Aish recognized that her “love affair” with the convenience of Deliveroo began during lockdown and “quickly and quietly escalated into morning vodka orders.”
She noted that having the ability to fuel her “habit” at her fingertips was a “recipe for disaster.”
The young woman admitted: “Before I knew it, I had the same Deliveroo driver arriving at my house multiple times a day.”
Additionally, Aish discussed her experience of drinking mouthwash when she couldn't access alcohol.
She acknowledged that she felt “desperate” and when her supply ran out and she could no longer place orders on Deliveroo, she panicked and turned to mouthwash.
Aish, who now attends meetings five times a week, explained that getting sober is “hard work” but “worth it.” She recounted that during her heavy drinking days, she was “desperate not to experience withdrawal symptoms.”
The young woman described herself at the time as a “round-the-clock drinker” who consumed alcohol “from morning until night,” acknowledging that she had been “drinking heavily for about three years.”
Now suffering from Alcoholic Neuropathy, a condition caused by long-term heavy drinking, she admitted that she was “desperate” to find anything containing alcohol.
She shared: “I discovered mouthwash, started drinking it, and felt violently ill, obviously, because who does that?”
I would order random items like carrots and bananas, and just anything to make it look like I wasn't ordering five bottles of wine or vodka in the morning.

Aish has since undergone treatment after choosing “peace” and wanting “more” from her life.
Now eager to share her journey, Aish added: “It just illustrates the sheer desperation and lengths one will go to— it completely transforms you as a person, affecting how you view yourself and your self-respect; it’s just horrendous.”
