Alago youths block road, bar access to Tiv-controlled market in Nasarawa

Tension has escalated in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, as angry Alago youths in Agwatashi have reportedly blocked the Agwatashi-Agon-Awe Federal Road, cutting off access to the popular Agon Market.

The market, widely recognized as a Tiv-dominated economic hub in the area, was shut out from traders and buyers on Saturday morning, as the protesting youths barricaded the road, disrupting movement and stalling commercial activities.

Eyewitnesses say many travelers were forced to turn back, while stranded commuters and traders expressed fear over the growing hostility in the region.

The protest is believed to be linked to recent tensions over alleged forceful takeover of Tiv farmlands in the Mbakure axis of Obi LGA an action many claim was orchestrated by the government.

Amid the growing unrest, members of the Tiv community are expressing frustration and demanding answers from authorities.

“What is the offence of the Tiv people in Nasarawa State?” one concerned resident asked.
