The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to bestow prestigious chieftaincy titles on Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, and Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari during a ceremony scheduled for Saturday.

According to a flyer that has been circulating on social media and was obtained on Wednesday, Seyi Tinubu will be honored as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland, while the former governor of Zamfara State and current senator representing Zamfara West will be awarded the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland.

The flyer, jointly issued by the Alaafin and his wife, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, invites the public to attend the chieftaincy installation, which is set for Saturday, December 21, 2025.

The title Okanlomo of Yorubaland is considered a highly revered Yoruba honor, which can be loosely interpreted as “one who is cherished by all” or “a beloved son of the Yoruba people,” symbolizing love, acknowledgment, and importance within Yorubaland.

In a telephone interview on Wednesday, the Alaafin’s media aide, Bode Durojaiye, confirmed that the ceremony will take place as planned.

“Yes, it is accurate. The Alaafin of Oyo will install Seyi Tinubu as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland and Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari as the Obaloyin of Yorubaland,” Durojaiye stated.

He also mentioned that an official statement providing further details about the event would be released to the media in due course.
