Uganda's goalkeeper, Denis Onyango, has stated that Nigeria 'punished' his team due to their desperation for goals.

Onyango was unable to prevent Uganda's defeat as Nigeria triumphed with a score of 3-1 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match on Tuesday.

Uganda required a victory against Eric Chelle’s team to have a chance of advancing to the Round of 16.

However, a brace from Raphael Onyedika and a goal from Paul Onuachu ensured that the Super Eagles eliminated the Cranes from the AFCON.

In a post-match interview with reporters, Onyango also praised the Super Eagles as a strong team.

“We were desperate for goals, and Nigeria punished us,” Onyango remarked.

“They are a quality side,” added the Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, more AFCON final group stage matches are scheduled for today.

Ivory Coast will face Gabon, Mozambique will clash with Cameroon, Sudan will take on Burkina Faso, and Algeria will square off against Equatorial Guinea.
