Additional information has come to light regarding Victor Osimhen’s heated exchange with his Super Eagles teammates during the 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

As reported by former BBC journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, Osimhen’s frustration was directed at Bruno Onyemachi, not Ademola Lookman as was previously thought.

He indicated that the players held a private meeting without the coaching staff, where they voiced their dissatisfaction with Osimhen's conduct.

Obayiuwana stated on X: “Osimhen’s anger was not aimed at Lookman. It was Bruno Onyemachi, whom he perceived to be playing apathetically.

“Lookman intervened to mediate and, as we say in Nigeria, 'caught stray bullets.'

“After Osimhen was substituted, having mentally disengaged from the match, some officials from @thenff & @NatSportsComm intended to go to the dressing room before the game concluded to mediate between Osimhen and his teammates once the match was over.

“However, @Ndidi25, the team captain, informed them that the players planned to have a private, players-only post-match meeting in the dressing room, from which even Eric Chelle was excluded. Consequently, the officials did not enter the dressing room.

“All players expressed their discontent with Osimhen’s behavior on the field, which he did not take well.

“However, I believe that with an upcoming #AFCON2025 semi-final against the host nation, #Morocco, following a decisive 2-0 quarter-final victory over Algeria, this conflict is now behind them, and they will focus on the task ahead. There you have it!”
