The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the Chikun local government area of Kaduna State, Rev. Aminu Ayuka, has urged Governor Uba Sani to take immediate actions to address the ongoing issue of kidnapping in the Chikun and Kajuru local government areas.
In an interview with DAILY POST in Kaduna on Tuesday, he expressed that during the rainy season, bandits have forced individuals to cultivate their farmlands, emphasizing that locals are also compelled to harvest their crops and surrender them to the bandits.
He acknowledged that since the current administration took over, there has been a significant reduction in kidnapping incidents, but lamented that this year, banditry has made a troubling resurgence.
Regarding the designation of Nigeria by the President of the United States as a “Country of Particular Concern,” Ayuka expressed his support for this classification. He pointed out that many regions, including Chikun and Kajuru local government areas, have endured prolonged suffering at the hands of bandits, leading to numerous fatalities, destruction of homes, loss of property, and the payment of millions of naira in ransom.
“I wholeheartedly support the involvement of Americans to help us address the suffering that many Christians have faced due to the terrorists, which has resulted in the deaths of many of our brothers, sisters, and children without justification. I also believe that American assistance will be beneficial to other Nigerians, allowing us all to emerge from the turmoil we have been trapped in for years without a solution,” he stated.
“We, as Christians, will continue to raise our voices if the killings of our loved ones persist. We are praying that one day all Nigerians will overcome this barbaric treatment of one another. We also seek God’s wisdom for our leaders to find a way out of the current challenges our country faces.”
“As a church, CAN will persist in advocating for justice, peace, unity, and inclusiveness in all aspects of life in Nigeria, so that together we can unite against anything that is detrimental to all Nigerians.”
