The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has officially inaugurated a caretaker executive committee to manage the party’s activities until a new leadership is elected.

During the inauguration, the North East Zonal Vice Chairman of the ADC, David Lawal Babachir, stated that stakeholders agreed to form the interim team to stabilize the party and prepare for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Babachir, who previously served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) during Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, clarified that the new structure received approval from the National Working Committee (NWC) after thorough consultation and adherence to the party’s constitution.

“The leadership you see today is legitimate because it adhered to the proper procedures outlined in the party’s constitution,” Babachir stated. He stressed that indiscipline or defiance would not be accepted within the party.

He further noted that the National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark, has reiterated the party’s dedication to uphold its constitution, cautioning that anyone who opposes its guiding principles “has no place in the ADC.”

Babachir also urged unity among members, asserting, “Every politician must be prepared for criticism, but that should not alter our character or commitment to the party.”

In his acceptance speech, the new interim chairman, Barrister Sadiq Dasin, thanked party leaders for their trust in his team. The former federal lawmaker and past Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly committed to uniting the party and prioritizing the involvement of women and youth.

Referring to his appointment as “a child of necessity,” Dasin encouraged all dissatisfied members to rally behind the new leadership. “As we take on this responsibility, I assure you that 60 percent of elective positions in the upcoming congresses will be allocated to women and youth due to their crucial role in our success,” he stated.

He also promised to ensure that all future congresses in the state would be conducted transparently, equitably, and credibly.
