The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State has established a caretaker executive committee to manage the party's operations until a new leadership is officially elected.

During the inauguration, the North East Zonal Vice Chairman of the ADC, David Lawal Babachir, stated that stakeholders agreed to form the interim team to stabilize the party and prepare for the 2027 general elections.

Babachir, who previously served as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) during Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, clarified that the new structure was sanctioned by the National Working Committee (NWC) after thorough consultation and adherence to the party’s constitution.

“The leadership you see today is legitimate because it followed due process in accordance with the party’s constitution,” Babachir stated. He stressed that indiscipline or defiance would not be tolerated within the party.

He mentioned that the National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark, has reiterated the party’s dedication to uphold its constitution, cautioning that anyone who opposes its guiding principles “has no place in the ADC.”

Babachir also urged for unity among members, saying, “Every politician must be prepared for criticism, but that should not alter our character or commitment to the party.”

In his acceptance speech, the new interim chairman, Barrister Sadiq Dasin, expressed gratitude to party leaders for their trust in his team. The former federal lawmaker and past Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly vowed to unify the party and prioritize the involvement of women and youth.

Describing his appointment as “a necessity,” Dasin called on all dissatisfied members to support the new leadership. “As we take on this responsibility, I assure you that 60 percent of elective positions in the upcoming congresses will be allocated to women and youth due to their crucial role in our success,” he stated.

He further committed to ensuring that all future congresses in the state would be conducted transparently, fairly, and credibly.
