The Deputy Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Ndubuisi Nwobu, has faulted the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and his style of fighting insecurity in the state.
He alleged that since Governor Chukwuma Soludo assumed office in 2022, his administration has not provided even a bicycle to support the police or any other security agency in the state to empower them to combat crime.
Nwobu who spoke to journalists in Awka said: “No conventional security agency in the state has been empowered to fight insecurity. Instead, what the governor is doing is empowering ragtag and makeshift recruits, who he armed with guns.
“For close to three years, Soludo did nothing to solve insecurity in the state, until this year when he launched his Agunechemba and armed them. He deployed operatives, leading to frequent cases of brutality against citizens.
“If you go and check, all the Sienna vehicles which the governor gave to his security outfits, they are old vehicles driven in Nigeria, which he bought and refurbished here in Anambra.”
He said that the security and welfare of the people is the paramount responsibility of government, but Soludo has failed woefully in this regard.
Speaking on the likely hood of his party, ADC unsitting Soludo, he expressed optimism that the ADC is a credible alternative that would restore confidence in governance.
He said: “Who feels secure in Anambra today? Nobody. How do you re-elect someone who cannot protect you? Insecurity is Soludo’s greatest bane.
“Close to election year, Soludo’s government hurriedly assembled a ragtag group, bought used vehicles locally, panel-beated them, and handed them to the makeshift vigilantes, unleashing them on the streets.”
