A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress in Abia State, Prince Paul Ikonne, has urged the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, to refrain from seeking political recognition by invoking the name of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Instead, he should focus on providing answers and accountability to the citizens of Abia State.
Prince Ikonne stated that the governor’s recent comments regarding Nnamdi Kanu seem to be a desperate attempt to attract attention.
This statement was issued on Saturday in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Ujo Justice.
Ikonne expressed his concern that Governor Otti appears to be using sensitive national issues to divert the attention of Abians from his increasing record of underachievement and questionable financial practices.
Ikonne remarked, “It is regrettable that instead of offering Abians a clear account of how public funds are being utilized, Governor Otti has opted to politicize the sentiments of the people by involving the name of Nnamdi Kanu in the narrative of his failing government.”
He questioned the governor’s sincerity and credibility, asking why the purported N54 billion “Smart School” project and the N6 billion “Recreational Centre” allegedly carried out under Otti’s administration have not been visible.
He challenged the governor to specify the locations of these projects and to invite the media for verification.
“If these projects truly exist, why weren’t they inaugurated during the governor’s recent public display of some rehabilitated roads? Why does every report from Abia Government House end up as social media content lacking tangible evidence?” Ikonne questioned.
Regarding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the APC chieftain stated, “For over two years in office, Governor Otti has neither visited nor made any substantial intervention regarding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s situation, nor has he shown any concern. Now that his government’s credibility is faltering, he suddenly recalls Kanu. That is the height of hypocrisy,” Ikonne asserted.
DAILY POST reports that Otti recently mentioned Nnamdi Kanu, who was re-arrested by the Nigerian government in Kenya in June 2021.
