Abia PDP heads to Appeal Court over disqualification of election candidates

Published on June 14, 2025 at 01:24 PM

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP says it is heading to the Appeal Court in Owerri next week to challenge the High Court judgement which it said, tried tried to disqualify Chairmanship and Councilorship candidates in November 2, 2024 local government election in the state.

The Chairman of the PDP in Abia, Abraham Amah, made this known while addressing expanded South East zonal meeting on Friday in Umuahia.

Amahalso debunked the rumour making the rounds that the Court had sacked all structures of the party, from ward to state level executive.

According to him, the court ruling was misinterpreted by a section of people, stating that there was no judgement or Certified True Copy(CTC), to the claim.

“We started waiting for the CTC from the 6th of May, 2025 and few days ago, we received the CTC. The Judgment was very clear and simple. No executive from ward to state level was disqualified.

“The Judgment only tried to disqualify our councillorship and local government chairmanship candidates of the last local government election. But for whatever reason that was done, we have decided to go to Appeal.

“Our papers are ready, our lawyers have filed all the necessary papers at the Bende High Court. By next week, the papers will be dropped at the court of Appeal in Owerri. Outside this, Abia PDP is doing very well”;, he said.

Amah praised the the former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu and the Senator representing Abia Central, Senator Austin Akobundu for contributing to the growth and unity of the PDP in Abia.

Earlier in their speeches, the PDP National Vice Chairman South East, Chidiebere Goodluck, PDP Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha, and the Chairmen of PDP in the five South East States, recognised Samuel Anyanwu as the authentic National Secretary of the PDP.
