The Edo State Police Command has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams to Agenebode in Etsako East Local Government Area for the rescue of three abducted seminarians.

DAILY POST reports that the tactical teams include operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping and Intelligence units.

The spokesperson of the Command, Moses Yamu, disclosed this on Saturday in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City.

DAILY POST had on Friday reported that gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, on July 10, 2025 at about 9pm, invaded the Immaculate Conception Junior Seminary, Ivianokpodi, abducted three seminarians, and killed a personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

It was gathered that the late NSCDC personnel, identified as Chris Awenegiemhe, was among the three officers of the corps attached to the Immaculate Conception Junior Seminary.

Yamu, who said the deployment was in response to the attack on the school, added that the tactical teams would work in synergy with other security agencies, vigilantes, and hunters to rescue the abducted students unhurt and apprehend the attackers.

He said the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command, Monday Agbonika, ordered the deployment during a visit to the scene of the incident on Friday.

He said the visit was to assess the situation, commiserate with the affected community, and reinforce the command’s determination to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The command’s spokesman added that the Commissioner of Police described the incident as a senseless act of violence against a religious institution and innocent young students.

He also described it as not only barbaric but a direct assault on public peace and security.

“The Command commiserates with the family of the fallen NSCDC officer, the NSCDC leadership, the Catholic Diocese of Auchi, and the families of the abducted students during this difficult time,”; he said.

While assuring the public that the Command is fully committed to the protection of lives and property, he, however, vowed that it would not relent until those behind the reprehensible act are tracked down and made to face the full wrath of the law.

He called on members of the public to remain calm and support the ongoing operations with timely and credible information that can aid.
