Nine people have been arrested in Adamawa State in connection with the murder of a politician, Thomas Godwin, more famousely identified as Zamfara.

Zamfara was waylaid and killed last month around his home in Ka’ala, Hong Local Government Area, in circumstances shrouded in mystery, with the state government and the police vowing to get at the killers.

The Adamawa State Police Command, issuing an update on the matter, said it had arrested nine people “following the gruesome murder of Peoples’ Democratic Party PDP stalwart, Godwin Thomas, alias Zamfara”;; in connection with the incident.

The Spokesman of the Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje gave the names of the suspects in a statement as Sunday Terrang, Umar Ibrahim, Sadiq Ishaku, Solomon Gideon, Ahmed Aminu, Danlami Ali, Godwin Chakukuyada, Akacha Daniel Samari and Ibrahim Bakari.

“After a preliminary investigation, the suspects and the case file were transferred to the Force Intelligence Rapid Response Team (IRRT), Abuja, for further discreet investigation,”;; Nguroje explained.

He refuted a report alleging that certain people were arrested, tortured, starved, and coerced into making false confessions in connection with the murder, asserting that there was no time that the police violated the rights of any suspect.

He said, “It’s important to know that their statements were recorded in the presence of the state Legal Aid Council. All processes were video recorded. All arrests, interviews, and procedures were conducted in accordance with the international best practice and standard investigation procedure.”;;
