An Imo State Federal Lawmaker representing the Ideato Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has made a significant political move by officially joining the Action Peoples Party (APP) in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

This decision comes after his recent voluntary withdrawal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing ongoing internal conflicts as the reason for his departure.

Welcoming him into the APP family, the National President of the Party, Uchenna Kingsley Nnadi, stated that Ugochinyere's arrival is a significant advantage for the party, given that he is a current Federal Lawmaker and one of the most vocal advocates in the National Assembly.

He emphasized that the Ideato representative did not join the party out of frustration or desperation, but rather from a personal conviction that APP is poised to offer a political alternative for Ndimo and Nigeria as a whole.

“Ugochinyere's association with APP is not only a major benefit but a positive move that will enhance the party's strength and extend its reach across the Federation. We warmly welcome him into our political family and assure him of our unwavering support in all his political endeavors,” he said.

Receiving his party membership card in the presence of numerous supporters, Ugochinyere expressed his gratitude to the party leadership for their acceptance.

He remarked that joining APP feels like a homecoming, as he was previously the vice chairman of the party.

The Federal Lawmaker asserted that his motivation for joining APP stems from the fact that the party, unlike the PDP and others, remains the only political platform yet to be infiltrated by those he describes as anti-democrats and party hijackers, who, according to him, are determined to undermine genuine democratic processes.

He pointed out that the issues within the PDP began immediately after the party's 2023 presidential primaries, where Nyesom Wike lost to Atiku Abubakar in a clear contest.

He noted that Wike's refusal to accept defeat opened the door to internal crises that have led to the party's ongoing self-destruction.

“Immediately after the presidential primaries, Wike became erratic and began creating problems, recruiting allies to damage the party that supported him. Since 1999, Wike has enjoyed political relevance thanks to the PDP, yet instead of showing gratitude, he has chosen to undermine the very house that sheltered him,” he said.

Ugochinyere added that Wike is in conflict with everyone, operating under a dangerous political ideology, always insisting on having his way against democratic principles, which, according to him, has resulted in the PDP's downfall.

He maintained that he has no regrets about leaving the party, having done his utmost to uphold its integrity, despite some members testifying against him during various litigations aimed at ousting him.

The Ideato representative urged his supporters and constituents to embrace this new political family and obtain their membership cards, asserting that a new political era has begun not only in the Constituency but throughout Imo State.

Ugochinyere declared that the 2027 general elections will be challenging for those attempting to rig the elections, as the international community will be closely monitoring the situation, referencing recent developments in Venezuela.

“Prepare your Permanent Voter's Card; your votes must count. There will be no room for manipulation, as the world is watching and ready to intervene. Sovereignty belongs to the people and must be protected at all costs,” he stated.

Earlier in his address, a Governorship hopeful, Chima Amadi, remarked that Ugochinyere made the right choice in joining the APP.

He affirmed that Ugochinyere's entry into the party will aid in displacing the ruling APC from power and establishing leadership based on fairness, equity, and justice.

The event, which took place at the Ideato North Model Primary School in Akokwa, was attended by thousands of supporters, as well as representatives from other political parties who came to show solidarity with the Lawmaker.
