Newly posted Resident Electoral Commissione, REC, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. George O. Yomere, has called on the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen and sustain security arrangements as next year’s general election draws nearer.
He made the call today when he visited the Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Rashid Afegbua, as part of his familiarisation tour of the state.
Prof. George also called on other security agencies ahead of the forthcoming elections for the same collaboration.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process in the interest of democracy and public confidence.
The newly posted REC was accompanied by members of his team during the visit.
He also briefed the Command on the ongoing voter registration exercise, noting that preparations were underway for the commencement of the third phase of the exercise across the state.
Responding, Afegbua reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to continued collaboration with INEC and other relevant stakeholders towards ensuring adequate security before, during, and after the elections.
A statement signed by the Command PRO, Eitokpah Sunday, assured the REC of their operational readiness and dedication to providing a safe, secure, and conducive environment that will enable residents of the state to participate freely in all electoral activities without fear, intimidation, or harassment.
