The publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, asserts that the only way the opposition can defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election is by designating the presidency to the Muslim North and the vice presidency to the Christian South.
Momodu made this statement on Friday during an interview on Arise Television, which was observed by DAILY POST.
He indicated that President Tinubu has effectively secured the South, making it nearly impossible for any southern presidential candidate to compete successfully against him.
“It’s clear that the current government has transformed this into an ethnic struggle, and it’s going to be a contest of North versus South.
“That’s why you witnessed members of the PDP and APC all striving to assert that a candidate must originate from the South. They understand that President Tinubu has already solidified his position in the South, and no one — not Peter Obi, nor Goodluck Jonathan, will be able to catch up with him where he stands right now,” he stated.
According to him, President Tinubu’s substantial financial resources and control over state mechanisms provide him with a significant advantage, adding that only a strategic counterbalance from the North could shift the odds in favor of the opposition.
The former presidential candidate also rejected the idea that such zoning would compromise fairness or the principle of power rotation, arguing that the concept of an eight-year rotation between the North and South is not enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.
