A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has called on ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi to contest the presidential election in 2027 under the PDP.
There has been speculations of the possible return of the trio to the PDP, to boost their chances of emerging as President in 2027.
Despite the speculations, none of them have openly declared an intention to return to PDP. Also, Atiku and Jonathan are yet to disclose if they would run for the presidency in 2027.
However, Hashim said the reported interest of Jonathan, Atiku and Obi to return to PDP and contest for the party’s presidential ticket was in the interest of democracy.
In a statement by his media aide, Hassan Mahmoud, the PDP chieftain said their possible return would enhance the idea of inclusiveness.
Parts of the statement read: “The more, the merrier, a robust and competitive primary will not divide the PDP, rather, it will reassert its credentials as the true party of democracy in Nigeria.
“If Jonathan, Atiku, Obi and others wish to contest, they should be welcomed.”
