Former Manchester United star, Rio Ferdinand has conveyed a strong message to England manager following the impressive performance of Danny Welbeck.
Welbeck scored two goals against Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday and Ferdinand asserts that the experienced striker merits a position in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Welbeck netted twice for Brighton & Hove Albion, leading them to a 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Saturday.
The 35-year-old has had a commendable season, having scored 12 goals in 30 Premier League matches.
Rio Ferdinand, who shared the pitch with Welbeck in 71 matches at Manchester United, endorsed the striker for inclusion in the World Cup roster.
He expressed his thoughts on X, saying, “Welbeck needs to go to the World Cup….”
At 35 years of age, Danny Welbeck continues to demonstrate remarkable performance levels. He has notably rediscovered his scoring touch in the Premier League over the past two seasons.
Last season, he scored 10 league goals in 30 appearances, and he has already achieved 12 goals in 30 matches this season. The striker has previously played for Manchester United, Arsenal, and Watford.
During his time at Manchester United, Welbeck scored 29 goals in 142 appearances and netted 32 goals in 126 matches for Arsenal. To date, he has made 194 appearances for Brighton, finding the net on 50 occasions.
