17 arrested as NSCDC raids illegal mining site in Kogi

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 17 suspects and seized several vehicles in a coordinated operation against illegal mining activities in Kogi State.

The operation, carried out by the NSCDC Mining Marshals, was conducted in the Odiagbo-Okaba district of Ankpa Local Government Area following growing complaints from residents over environmental degradation and public health risks.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale.

According to the statement, the corps impounded three trucks and 39 motorcycles allegedly used for illegal mining during the raid.

“The recent crackdown in Kogi was led by the Assistant Commandant of Corps John Attah and resulted in the arrest of 17 suspects,”; the statement read.

“Three trucks were also impounded, and 39 motorbikes used for the illicit business were also confiscated.”;

NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi revealed the Corps’ commitment to curb economic sabotage and protect national assets.
