ZINEDINE ZIDANE’S son looks set to follow in his father’s footsteps by appearing at the World Cup.
Frenchman won the World Cup in 1998 and had one of the sport’s most shocking moments when he was sent off for a headbutt in the World Cup final against in 2006.

However, his son, Luca, won’t be representing Les Bleus at this summer’s tournament.
Instead, the 28-year-old has been given the call to represent for his first World Cup.
The goalkeeper represented at Under-20 level before choosing to represent the North African nation, where his grandparents were born.
He made his debut in October 2025 during a World Cup qualifier against Uganda, before starring as The Fennec Foxes No1 during the 2025/26 African Cup of Nations.
Zidane was named as one of four goalkeepers in Vladimir Petkovic’s 26-man squad for this summer’s tournament, with the likes of , Rayan Ait-Nouri and also picked.
But his selection is a gamble with Zidane having not played since breaking his jaw and chin while playing for Spanish club Granada in April.
He played 26 times in 2 last season, and has played six times for the Algeria national team.
Algeria were drawn in Group J and will face world champions in their opening match, before clashes with and in the group stage.

New World Cup 2026 rules
FIFA confirmed several new rules coming into play for the World Cup 2026.
They are:
- Outfield players cannot go to technical areas while goalkeeper getting treatment
- Five-second countdowns for goal-kicks and throw-ins
- Ten-second substitutions – or else one-minute sub entry delay
- One minute off field after outfield players get treatment
- Three-minute hydration breaks in each half
- VAR can intervene over fouls before ball in play for goals, penalties and disciplinary sanctions
- VAR can correct wrongly-awarded yellow cards and corners
- Red cards for covering mouth in confrontational talk
- Red cards for walking off pitch in protest
