The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State has called on the elite and stakeholders of Northern Nigeria to form a regional security committee to tackle the increasing insecurity.
Haliru Andi, the PDP Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, made this appeal on Friday in Gusau, the state capital.
He suggested that Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State should lead the committee, referencing his recent position paper on security challenges presented at the Northern Governors’ Forum and the Northern Emirs meeting in Kaduna.
Andi stated that the committee would bring together Northern leaders, including governors, traditional rulers, youth and women organizations, as well as civil society groups, to create strategies aimed at reducing banditry and other criminal activities.
“Governor Lawal’s experience and policies in addressing insecurity in Zamfara make him an ideal candidate to lead this initiative,” he remarked, noting that the committee could pave the way for a new approach in the battle against crime in the region.
