Members of a local security outfit, popularly known as “Yansakai”;; has taken the responsibility of protecting lives and properties along Mayanchi Junction and Anka axis in Zamfara State.
Some journalists who followed Governor Dauda Lawal to Anka for commissioning of Anka General Hospital on Saturday, discovered that between Mayanchi Junction and Anka town, no presence of conventional security operatives was noticed.
It was discovered that there were over fifteen groups of Yansakai groups mainly youths with their local weapons in many strategic locations of the axis.
The journalists also noticed that many villages have been sacked by the ravaging bandits in the axis which prompted the youths to come out in large numbers as volunteers to protect lives and properties of the people from the bandits.
The conventional security operatives were seen only in Anka town instead of expanding their operational areas.
Asked how the youths with only local weapons could confront bandits with sophisticated weapons, a member of the Yansakai group in Gusau, Mustapha Ismaili told DAILY POST that one should not underrate the youths.
According to him, when former Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle initiated peace accord with the bandits in the State, the first demand of the bandits was to outlaw the Yansakai group.
“Since the government banned Yansakai group, the security challenges became worst”;;, he said.
He wondered why the State government would continue to spend huge amount of money purchasing operational vehicles for security agencies while the situation worsened.
Ismaili advised the State government to empower these Yansakai youths.
