Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has voiced his concerns regarding the loss of hope among young Nigerians.
Atiku expressed his deep sadness over the struggles faced by young Nigerians, including hardship, fraudulent elections, and poor governance.
In a post on his Facebook page, the former Vice President urged the youth to understand that the change they seek cannot be achieved through voter apathy, pointing out that a voter turnout of only 25 to 30 percent in each election cycle is disheartening.
He stated: “I am profoundly concerned about how young Nigerians are losing faith in the future of our country.
“Whenever they approach me to discuss issues of bad governance, fraudulent elections, and the hardships faced by citizens, I feel a deep sadness about the current situation.
“Yesterday evening, I met with another group of young people from across the 19 Northern states, led by Alh. Adamu Bappa Gombe.
“They expressed their concerns about how their votes seem to have no impact and how poor governance and policies adversely affect their quality of life and businesses.
“I have consistently encouraged them not to lose hope. I emphasized that the change they seek can only be achieved through the ballot box. I reminded them of their duty to mobilize their peers to actively participate in the leadership recruitment process via elections.
“I reiterated that the change they aspire to cannot be realized through voter apathy and that a turnout of 25% to 30% in every election cycle is not satisfactory. I challenged them to make a significant impact by promoting widespread participation in the 2027 elections.
“We, on our part, will not relent until Nigeria is liberated from anti-democratic forces.”
