Yobe Government Greenlights N2.1 Billion for Local Government Retiree Payments

The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has authorized the immediate release of ₦2.1 billion for the settlement of outstanding gratuities owed to retired local government employees for the period from January 2020 to May 2025.

This approval was detailed in a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Local and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Adamu Jajere, which was shared with the media.

The statement indicated that the Governor has also mandated that gratuity payments be incorporated into the monthly financial schedule of the Local Government, ensuring that future retirement benefits are disbursed regularly and without delays, in conjunction with pensions.

“On behalf of the state government, I characterized this initiative as a reflection of the Governor’s compassionate and citizen-focused leadership, aimed at providing financial support and dignity to our senior citizens,” he stated.

“The Ministry has begun preparations for the transparent and swift disbursement of the approved funds to all eligible retirees,” the Commissioner noted.

He added that this initiative is part of the Governor’s wider strategy to promote fiscal responsibility and improve the welfare of citizens who have contributed significantly to the growth and development of the state.
