Social media platform, X, owned by United States tech billionaire Elon Musk, is back after users experienced a brief downtime on Friday.
DAILY POST reports that X experienced a down time for users in Nigeria around 3pm on Friday before it was restored.
According to monitoring data from Down detector, report numbers spiked dramatically, with over 45,000 users flagging issues as of 8:38pm on January 16, 2026, a staggering increase from the baseline of just 18 reports.
During the downtime X users had encountered Cloudflare’s dreaded “Connection timed out” error code and failed loading.
Meanwhile, X has not officially made a comment on the development as of filing the report.
Recall that X Worldwide users had faced a global outage, which left them offline on January 13, 2026, and November 18th last year.
