ALL too often many of us choose to stick with our favourite clothing, even if it’s adding years to our appearance.

Although you should wear what you want, there’s no denying that everything – from your to go-to jumper – can either make you look younger… or have the very opposite effect.

However, you don’t need a whole new to feel younger – sometimes it’s just about subtle changes that can make a huge difference.

Now, a personal stylist has urged women over 50 to check their wardrobes and chuck away three popular items before the arrival of spring.

The expert, Nerys, took to TikTok to list the clothing she “absolutely” hates on midlife fashionistas – and what to wear instead if you want to appear more youthful.

Getting candid on her top three , Nerys first attacked the floral blouse – a popular pick during the warmer months.

While blouses with a floral print have been a staple for many years, the TikToker urged to ditch the trend and opt for something more basic.

“Just go for a plain colour – look how much younger you look,” she said in the video .

Another item that made it on the no-go list was a pair of capri trousers.

Nerys, who posts under the username @ style_by_nerys1 , said: “Just make your trousers a big longer.

“That little bit of material that you’re saving on your ankle is not gonna keep you any cooler, is it?” she joked.

Instead, swap these with a pair of wide-leg bottoms – and not only will it slash years of your appearance but will also .

“It’ll make you look taller, make you look more up to date.”

Last but certainly not least – .

Nerys continued: “If you don’t want to ditch that denim jacket […], go with a plain dress instead. Makes you look a bit younger.

Fashion stylist Gemma Rose Breger, and beauty journalist Samantha Silver revealed how you can make your outfits elevated without spending hundreds of pounds.

  1. Don’t ever spend on designer denim: ”always has such a great selection of fashion-forward jeans that follow the current trends”. The high street retailer offers a great range of sizes to fit UK 6 – UK 18, and three leg lengths – and prices start from an affordable £25.
  2. There are no rules for jewels: ”Pick up something at a car boot sale, or , scroll on & , snap up something from the clothing section in your local when doing the or check out high street clothing stores.”
  3. Don’t forget the pre-loved sites: With a rising number of second-hand sites, such as Vinted and , there’s no excuse for not buying – or selling – pre-loved garments. Gemma, for instance, has managed to get her hands on chic Chanel sunnies for a mere £17.

“Ditch the floral – floral’s not working, not working for anyone.

“Over 50? You look like .”

Posted just two days ago, the clip has taken the internet by storm, racking up close to 300k views – and a fierce debate in the comments.
