Women Aid Collective take protest to JAMB office in Abia over server malfunction

Published on May 21, 2025 at 02:24 PM

Members of the Women Aid Collective, WACOL, have stormed the Abia State office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB in Umuahia, demanding immediate action over recurring glitches in the board’s examination system.

The women who were led by Ugo Kalu, cried out that the failure of JAMB’s system disproportionately affected students in the Southeast and parts of Lagos.

The angry women said the disappointment sparked outrage across the South East.region.

Speaking to the crowd, Kalu questioned why the glitches appeared to have affected only students from the Southeast region and some southern parts of Lagos.

Kalu questioned why the system malfunction did not happen in other parts of the country except in the South East and Lagos.

“Why is this issue not nationwide?”;; she asked. “Is there an intention behind these repeated failures to hinder the education of students from our region?”;;

Kalu called for JAMB to upgrade its technological infrastructure to prevent further disruptions, saying that it caused psychological crises in students and their parents.

Responding to the protests, Mrs Calista Umeadi, the Head of Servicom and the representative of the JAMB Abia State Coordinator, commended the demonstrators for their peaceful approach.

Umeadi assured the protesters that their grievances would be escalated to higher authorities within the board for prompt action.
