Woman, 21, dies and another injured after being hit by car outside shopping centre as two men arrested

A WOMAN has died following after a car ploughed into two pedestrians in a horrific late-night crash outside a shopping centre.

Police rushed to the scene outside Gracechurch Shopping Centre in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands , shortly before midnight yesterday.

One of the pedestrians, a 21-year-old woman, died from her injuries at the scene, West Midlands Police said.

Another woman was treated for a leg injury which is not thought to be life-threatening.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and were in custody today as enquiries continued.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died at this time.

“We are continuing our enquiries and are keen to hear from anyone who was driving near the scene or in the streets nearby before or after the collision happened.

“Any dashcam or doorbell footage you have would really help our investigation.”
