Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju and social media commentator Joe Igbokwe have engaged in a dispute following a heated exchange between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and a Naval officer.
On Tuesday, social media was filled with a viral video clip showing Wike confronting a soldier who denied him access to a contested piece of land.
The incident sparked division among Nigerians, with some supporting the military officer while others sided with the FCT Minister, condemning the soldier's actions.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Joe Igbokwe called for the dismissal of the officer, questioning those who granted him authority.
In response, Deji Adeyanju, in a counter post on Facebook, advised Igbokwe to refrain from seeking an appointment.
He wrote, “Dear Joe Igbokwe, the appointment is already over. Stop the hustle unless you want to take over this cameraman's role. Being a media aide in old age is quite absurd. Old data boys.”
However, Igbokwe took to the comment section to caution Deji, asserting that they are not peers and that he is not in search of any appointment.
He wrote, “Deji, you do not know me, and I do not know you. The only thing I know about you is that you are an emergency activist. I have been a well-established individual for over 30 years.
“I began my activism at the University of Nigeria Nsukka in the 1980s. It has been over 40 years, Deji. Young man, I am no longer seeking anything from anyone. I am not your peer.
“Please go and verify. Ignorance is a terrible affliction. Check my background, ask questions, seek information, read my five books, and you will truly understand who I am. A quality product promotes itself.”
